ARMIN VAN BUUREN

Armin van Buuren is a Dutch DJ and producer who has taken trance far beyond the club scene. Since 2001, his weekly radio show A State of Trance has connected new music with audiences around the world.

Born in Leiden and raised in Koudekerk aan den Rijn, he developed an early interest in sound and technology through his music-loving family. He began making music himself at 14 and later played DJ sets at Club Nexus that often lasted six hours or more. His first major breakthrough came with Blue Fear in 1997. He founded Armind in 1999, followed four years later by Armada Music alongside Maykel Piron and David Lewis.

Imagine topped the Dutch album charts in 2008, while its single In and Out of Love reached the Top Ten there. In 2014, This Is What It Feels Like, recorded with Trevor Guthrie, earned him a Grammy nomination. He also set standards behind the decks, winning DJ Mag’s Top 100 poll five times, including four consecutive wins. The scale of his shows was clear in 2017, when his anniversary programme sold out the Amsterdam ArenA and attracted more than 80,000 visitors across two nights.

Van Buuren has remained connected to his trance roots while opening his productions to pop, electro house, big room and psytrance. Great Spirit, his collaboration with Vini Vici and Highlight Tribe, became a festival hit in 2016. On stage, the experience of long DJ sets meets the energy of an artist who has continually expanded his sound.
