About Whigfield
Whigfield is the stage name of Danish singer Sannie Charlotte Carlson, a name inseparably linked with Nineties Eurodance. With “Saturday Night”, her voice became the soundtrack to countless dancefloors – and the track even inspired its own audience-created dance routine.
Born in Skælskør, Carlson studied music and worked as a model before meeting producer Larry Pignagnoli. Their collaboration took shape in Italy, where she released “Saturday Night” as Whigfield in 1993.
A year later, it became an international hit, entering the UK Singles Chart straight at number one and also reaching the top spot in Germany. With “Another Day” and “Think of You”, she remained in the top ten in several countries, while “Sexy Eyes” later also enjoyed chart success.
Carlson did not remain solely in front of the microphone: she wrote and composed for other artists, and recorded under the alias Naan for further dance projects. Since 2015, she has also released music as Sannie, while continuing to perform as Whigfield at Nineties-focused concerts. Her appearance therefore brings festival audiences both memories of the Eurodance boom and an artist who has remained musically active beyond her biggest hit.
