About this festival

Electronic music, Sámi joik and light art come together at Vinterlys Festivalen 2027 in Tromsø. From 11 to 14 February, the four-day programme takes place across Nordlyscenen, Skogsscenen and Isbaren in and around the centre of the Norwegian city. AURORA, Nils Frahm, Máddji, DJ Polar Night, Sigrid, Íslandssaga and Frost & Ild are among the confirmed musical programme. Techno and ambient sit alongside electronic live shows, Nordic folk and pop.

Between concerts, a guided light walk, sound installations and a joik workshop add to the festival. A food area focuses on Arctic ingredients. Warm tents and heated areas offer places to retreat during the winter event. Entry is open to those aged 18 or over; day tickets and a pass for all four days are available.

Questions & answers

How do I get to the festival?

Tromsø can be reached by air via Tromsø lufthavn (TOS), with daily connections from Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim as well as international destinations; the flight from Oslo takes around 1 hour 45 minutes. Alternatively, Hurtigruten ships call at Tromsø, while express buses run from Alta, Narvik and other towns in Northern Norway, taking around 6 hours from Alta.

How old do I need to be to get in?

Vinterlys Festivalen is an adults-only event for those aged 18 or over. Valid ID must be shown at the entrances to all festival areas.

What can I bring, and what is prohibited?

A wide range of Arctic food and drinks is available across the festival site. For safety reasons, you may not bring your own drinks; free water is available at every stage.

What happens in bad weather?

In February, temperatures of around -10 to -20°C can be expected, and wind chill may make it feel even colder. Tromsø is covered in snow, so sturdy footwear is essential, and the chances of seeing the Northern Lights are high. Layering is recommended, with woollen base layers, fleece and a warm winter jacket. The festival goes ahead in all weather conditions, with heated tents and warm areas available; only in extreme weather may individual programme items be moved indoors.

Is the site accessible?

The festival is accessible to wheelchair users and people with reduced mobility. For further information, contact the organising team at mail@vinterlysfestivalen.com.

Are festival passes refundable?

Tickets are non-refundable after purchase. If you can no longer attend, you can resell your ticket through the official ticket exchange. If the festival is cancelled, the full ticket price will be refunded.
