About this festival
Schwing und Stampf Festival 2026 returns to Oberrickenbach in the canton of Nidwalden from 27 to 30 August 2026. Questions & answers
How do I get to the festival?
The festival site can only be reached by public transport or shuttle bus. Travel by train to Wolfenschiessen; the journey takes around 1.5 hours from Zürich HB and roughly 1.5 hours from Basel SBB. From Wolfenschiessen station, a Postbus runs hourly to the valley station in Oberrickenbach until around 18:37. A dedicated shuttle bus operates continuously in line with train arrivals in Wolfenschiessen. A flat-rate ticket costs CHF 10, while a single journey costs CHF 5. Taxis can stop at the designated taxi hub in front of the site.
Is parking available?
The festival site cannot be reached directly by car. Paid parking is available in Wolfenschiessen, but spaces are limited. If the car parks are full, alternative parking in Dallenwil or Stans will be used. From the car park in Wolfenschiessen, the walk uphill to the site takes at least 1.5 hours. Shuttle buses take guests comfortably from Wolfenschiessen railway station to the festival.
How old do I have to be to get in?
You must be 18 or over to enter the festival.
How can I pay on site?
Cashless payment is required throughout the festival site. You can pay with a standard debit or credit card, and TWINT is also accepted.
What can I bring, and what is prohibited?
Glass, firearms, spray weapons, stabbing weapons, striking weapons and bladed weapons, as well as other items classified as dangerous—particularly pocket knives, pyrotechnics, firecrackers, dry ice and animals—are prohibited on the festival site. Each person may bring a maximum of one 0.5-litre bottle. The same restrictions on weapons, pyrotechnics, dry ice and animals apply on the campsite.
What happens in bad weather?
The festival site is located at almost 1000 metres above sea level and is surrounded by mountains. Weather conditions can change quickly, and there is a relatively high chance of rain. Temperatures can drop sharply at night, so visitors are advised to bring sufficient waterproof and warm clothing. The festival takes place in all weather conditions; additional shelters will be put up if conditions are poor.
Is the site accessible?
Wheelchair users and people with other physical impairments who require assistance may bring one companion free of charge. However, due to the nature of the site, certain areas, such as the Schwing or Pattera Floor, are difficult to access. An official medical certificate is required on arrival for the companion to be admitted free of charge. An email can be sent in advance to info@schwingundstampf.ch.
Are dogs allowed on site?
Animals are not permitted on either the festival site or the campsite.
