RED 5

Red 5 is the dance project of DJ and producer Thomas Kukula, whose music captures the club energy of the Nineties. What began as a live act developed into a project with Europe-wide success, featuring changing voices and faces.

Kukula had previously worked as a DJ and launched his own music projects with General Base, T.H.K. and Candy Beat. In 1995, he founded Red 5, initially envisaged as a purely live dance act. The project has at times included rapper Anthony “Lemar” Woods, singer Nadja Ayari and dancer Vanessa Garcia Sempere.

Although record labels initially turned it down, “Da Beat Goes” reached the Top 20 of the German charts in 1996. Its distinctive vocal comes from a 1989 sample by rapper MC Miker G. Further successes followed with “I Love You…Stop!” and “Lift Me Up”, while the debut album “Forces” was released in 1997.

Red 5 moves between dance, trance and house, driven by synthesiser sounds and a strong feel for the club. Since the late Nineties, Kukula has also performed alone as DJ Red 5, keeping the project’s sound alive on stage.
