Luna

Luna is the artist name of Richard de Mildt, a Dutch DJ and producer who has made Hardstyle, Hardcore and Techno his musical home. He has been a defining influence on the development of Dutch Hardstyle since the early 2000s.

Born in The Hague, he grew up in Sassenheim, South Holland, before returning to his birthplace as a young adult. His passion for Hardcore and Oldschool began as a visitor to rave parties in the 1990s. Shortly before the turn of the millennium, his connection with Q-dance opened the door to events including Qlimax, Defqon.1 and Mystery Land. He also formed the trio DHHD with Trilok & Chiren, which produced the Defqon.1 anthem “30 Minutes” in 2003. That same year, he founded the label StraightOn Recordings with DJ Pila and The Scientist.

The distance he had travelled became clear in 2005 with his solo performance at the Gelredome in Arnhem. In 2008, he and Deepack followed with “Biological Insanity”, another Defqon.1 anthem, while Luna founded the new label Minus Is More.

Through Minus Is More, he played an important role in the rise of Raw Hardstyle. Between his roots in Hardcore and Oldschool and the harder Hardstyle of his later years, Luna remains a DJ whose story is closely tied to the Dutch festival and rave scene.
