Cynthia Spiering

Cynthia Spiering is a DJ and producer from Rotterdam, combining techno with the energy of old-school raves. Euphoric melodies meet hard, uncompromising kicks in a contrast that defines both her productions and sets.

She discovered techno at 18 and soon began working in Rotterdam’s vibrant scene. Other DJs’ sets sparked her curiosity about the craft behind the decks; after many hours of practice, she played her first gig in 2016. She first learned to beatmatch with vinyl and CDs, long before using digital tools for her performances.

The 2018 release “Back To The Rave” was followed by “Kinetic Energy EP” in 2019; she later founded Courtoisy Records. Her sets have taken her to Awakenings, Verknipt and Rotterdam Rave. She retains a special connection to the music of her early days: after years without playing a vinyl set, she looked forward to putting records on again.

Her high-energy sets bring classic rave and acid sounds into contemporary techno without letting the hopeful mood give way to pressure. Spiering also looks for variety: for a club night she curated, she wanted to bring different strands of techno together in a musical arc of tension.
