CAPTAIN JACK

Captain Jack stands for German Eurodance with a distinctive twist: dance music that draws on the tone of marching and soldiers’ songs. In the second half of the 1990s, the project became known far beyond Germany with a string of high-energy hits.

Captain Jack was initiated by producers Udo Niebergall and Richard Witte, with Liza da Costa and Sharky Durban initially taking centre stage. When Durban left at the end of 1995, Franky Gee took on the role of Captain and shaped the next phase alongside da Costa.

The first self-titled single was released in 1995, soon followed by “Drill Instructor”, which also made the military-tinged sound a trademark of the group. Both tracks reached number one in the Netherlands in quick succession, followed by the album “The Mission” in 1996. At the time, three female dancers joined the group on stage, matching the music’s immediate energy.

After Franky Gee’s death in 2005, Captain Jack’s future was uncertain, but the project returned with a new line-up in 2008. Today, Bruce Lacy and Illi Love represent Captain Jack, while the Eurodance sound and distinctive military references maintain the link to the hits of the 1990s.
