Benny Rodrigues

Benny Rodrigues is a DJ and producer from Rotterdam whose music thrives on groove, tension and funk. Under his own name, he moves between groove-led tech house and techno, drawing on Detroit, minimal and acid influences.

Born and raised in Rotterdam, Rodrigues has Portuguese roots and made his way from the Dutch club scene to international stages. With the ROD alias, he gave his love of techno its own space: while Benny Rodrigues explores a broad stylistic range, ROD goes deeper. ROD’s debut EP, „Malmok“, was released on Ben Klock’s Klockworks label.

In 2005 and 2006, invitations from Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson took him to Detroit’s Electronic Music Festival. He later held a three-year Saturday residency at Antwerp’s Café d’Anvers and performed in Ibiza. As ROD, he played Berlin’s Berghain and extended his nights at Rotterdam’s Perron and Amsterdam’s Trouw into eight-hour sets.

On stage, Rodrigues can shift between warm, funky pressure and stripped-back techno without losing the momentum on the dancefloor. In the studio, he continues to work on a raw, functional sound that keeps the groove at its centre.
